Melta has two new members in the family: Cereal and Dandelion Čekafe ☕
Melta has been part of Czech homes for generations. Some people remember drinking it with milk at breakfast, others know it as the warm drink that was always somewhere in the kitchen cupboard.
What still surprises us is how far Melta travels from CzechiaFood. We regularly send it to Greece, Australia, Canada and especially often to California. For many people living abroad, it is not simply a coffee substitute. It is a familiar taste they know from home and want to enjoy again in their own kitchen.
Now there are two new instant versions to try:
Both are prepared as easily as instant coffee, but each has its own character.
What exactly is Melta? 🌾
Melta is a Czech roasted coffee substitute. It has the dark color, aroma and warm roasted character people associate with coffee, but it contains no caffeine.
It does not taste exactly like espresso. Melta has its own profile - smooth, lightly sweet, grain-based and chicory-led. Some people drink it plain, while others enjoy it with milk, a plant-based drink or a little sugar.
That is why it works at any time of day. Morning, afternoon, evening, or whenever you want something warm in a mug without another dose of caffeine.
Čekafe Cereal - the smoother grain version 🌾
Melta Čekafe Cereal Coffee Substitute is an instant Czech grain drink made from roasted barley, rye and chicory root.

It has a warm, smooth taste with a gentle malty note. It is a good choice for anyone who likes classic Melta, chicory drinks or softer roasted flavours.
It works especially well:
- with breakfast
- in a mug with milk
- when you want a warm drink without caffeine
- for anyone trying a Czech cereal coffee substitute for the first time
Simply stir one teaspoon into hot water and add milk or a plant-based drink to taste.
Čekafe Dandelion - a fuller option with roasted dandelion root 🌼
Melta Čekafe Dandelion Coffee Substitute combines roasted barley, rye, chicory and roasted dandelion root.

The dandelion root gives it a more earthy flavour with a lightly bitter finish. It is still smooth and comforting, but it has a fuller and more distinctive taste than the cereal version.
This one may appeal especially to people who enjoy chicory drinks, roasted flavours or want to try something a little different from standard instant coffee.
It is good on its own or with milk. On colder days, a small pinch of cinnamon works nicely too.
Which one should you choose? 🤔
A simple way to choose:
- Čekafe Cereal - smoother, maltier and more grain-led
- Čekafe Dandelion - fuller, earthier and lightly bitter
And if Melta is already part of your routine, you may simply want both. One for an everyday cup and one for days when you want something with a stronger roasted edge.
A Czech classic that travels far 📦
Melta is a good example of how one ordinary warm drink can bring back a sense of home. We often see it in orders alongside wafers, Kofola, Vitana products, Czech soups and other familiar cupboard staples.
They are not flashy products, but they are often exactly the things people abroad miss most.
That is why we are happy to add two new Čekafe varieties to the CzechiaFood range. One is gentler, one is more distinctive, but both belong to the same Czech tradition of naturally caffeine-free roasted coffee substitutes.
You can now find Melta Čekafe Cereal Coffee Substitute and Melta Čekafe Dandelion Coffee Substitute on CzechiaFood.
P.S. Melta will soon appear in new packaging. The familiar taste stays the same - only the look is changing.

Wherever you are, we’re happy to bring a little taste of Czech home to your table.
